MS ISO 9001:2015
On 24 August 2004, the company’s ISO 9001 documentation was approved by SIRIM after the “adequacy Audit” carried out by the SIRIM auditor.
In complying with the requirement of ISO 9001 whereby information on the company’s QMS. Quality Policy, Quality Objectives, Quality Manual, etc are to be disseminated to all levels of company staff, a number of avenues have been used including but not limiting to the posting of ISO 9001 information on Harwood’s e-bulletin and ISO 9001 briefing and training sessions organised at Sibu and Miri regions for staff of Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd.
Over the month of September 2004, Harwood Internal Quality Audit teams have also conducted a number of quality audits for all regions including Head Office to ensure compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001 and the company’s QMS.
On the 14-15 October 2004, SIRIM auditors have been in Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd to conduct a “Compliance Audit”. This would be the final phase of our ISO 9001 application.

The company has made the necessary amendments in its QMS documentation to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 : 2008 ready.
With the blessing and the foresight of our Executive Chairman and General Manager, Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd in June 2009 had formally applied to SIRIM for the ISO 9001 : 2008 certification for our core activities, i.e.:
- Log Endorsement
- Shipping and Transportation Administration
- Inspection of Export Logs
The Internal Quality Audit exercise has been carried out by Harwood Internal Auditors in the months of July and August 2009 to fulfill the ISO 9001 : 2008 requirements. A training on ISO 9001 : 2008 has been carried out at Head Office and a similar training has been conducted in the Regions on the first week of July 2009.
With the guidance of SIRIM consultant and the full involvement of our General Manager and the management team, we have come up with a concise ISO 9001 documentation for the company’s QMS (Quality Management System) within a relatively short period of time. The ISO 9001 documentation was formally approved and signed by our General Manager on 3 August 2004. The documentation consists of the following manuals:
- Quality Manual
- Standard Procedure Manual
- Endorsement Manual
- Human Resource Manual
- Information Technology Manual
- Financial Manual
- Task Force Manual
In 2017, The company upgraded the ISO Certificate to ISO9001:2015 as per certified by SIRIM on the 27th December 2017. The scope of certification complies with the provision of the following services:
- Log Endorsement
- Shipping and Land Transportation Administration
- Inspection of Logs for Export.

Award @ 13ICIT
Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd (HTSB) was presented with the BEST PAPER AWARD at the 13th International Conference on ISO 9000 & TQM (13-ICIT) in Kuala Lumpur on the 24th–26th March 2008.
Malaysia became the host of this prestigious international conference for the first time in its 13th year of inception and previous host had included United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, Scotland, Australia, Canada, Thailand, China and Taiwan. Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd paper entitled “ISO 9001 : 2000 – The Harwood Experience” became the best paper under SME category.
The winning paper drawn on theories of how the company through its practice of ISO 9001 : 2000 International Standard for Quality Management had successfully implemented a systematic and transparent management system which is designed to continually improve performance while at the same time addressing the needs of all interested parties which include members of Sarawak Timber Industry and the Sarawak State Government.
