To step into a brighter and challenging future, an organization must manage and overcome their weaknesses and shortcomings sensibly. A major challenge that must be addressed in an organization is the strengthening of business ethics and integrity. Culture of ethics and integrity is in line with the fourth challenge of Vision 2020 which is to form a strong community features of moral and ethics. Culture of ethics and integrity are very significant in any organization to ensure the implementation of any programs are achieved with integrity.
To establish an excellent culture in the organization, Harwood Timber has made it as a mandatory program for its staff to join the Excellent Work Culture ( Budaya Kerja Cemerlang, BKC ) course. On 17 and 19 February 2017, the last 50 participants ( latest admission session ) attended the BKC 2017 at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort, Miri.
The objectives of BKC 2017 was to sensitize the participants about the characteristics of excellent workers at work, guiding the participants to work more effectively and to bring out their best quality in their workplace and also to improve employee productivity and organizational performance.
The 3 days 2 nights course was attended by all elected staff of Harwood Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Sarikei, Kapit, Limbang, Miri and Kuching. The participants were divided into 7 groups and a variety of assessment activities were carried out to create a spirit of cooperation and healthy competition among each group.
The program began at 6.45 am and ended at 10:00 pm daily. Schedules and activities are one of the solid training to discipline the participants, while giving them the opportunity to learn and manage their time wisely. The group that collects the highest scores were named the overall winner. Group 2, Group 3 and Group 5 won first , second and third place respectively. In addition, the secretariat had also chose two of the best overall participants in which judgments are made in terms of their attitude, leadership and various other positive values.
During the course, participants were exposed to various classes that taught some of the concepts and importance of excellence to serve as a guideline in carrying out their responsibilities in daily work. The main focus of this course is to establish the participants and educate them to become successful individuals and being productive in their workplace. By the end of BKC 2017, Harwood hoped that the participants adopt a culture of excellence in their respective duties in accordance with the vision of Harwood which is to become a leading contributor to the sustainable development of timber resources and value added industry.
