Briefing on Forest Department Function

The first session of Briefing on Forest Department Functions for 2019 was conducted on 26th and 27th February 2019 at Golden Bay Hotel, Bintulu. This two days program is a continuation program from 2018 facilitated by Encik Afriezul Bin Abdul Rahman who is from Forest Department.

There were 40 staff comprising of log inspectors and supervisors, from Endorsement and Shipping Department who attended this briefing. The objective of the course is to impart knowledge on Forest Policies and Forest Managements  to all participants.

The Briefing on Forest Department Functions consisted of 6 sections:-

i.Sarawak Forestry Policies

ii.The Implementation  of Sustainable Forest Management & Forest Management Certification

iii.Licensing (Logging)

iv.Introduction to the Sarawak Forest Department Forest Audit

v.Forest Enforcement by Sarawak Forest Department

vi.Sarawak Timber Legality Verification System (STLVS)


The session was opened with a welcoming speech from Regional Manager Bintulu, En. Abdul Halim Edon on the first day of briefing. The facilitator then started the briefing with the first three sections comprising of the Sarawak Forestry Policies, general information on the Implementation of Sustainable Forest Management and Forest Management Certification. At the end of each sections, all the participants are required to answer the online quiz given by the facilitator. 3 winners who has passed the quiz for each section will be given a gift.

The focus on the morning of day two were Licensing (Logging), introduction to the Sarawak Forest Department Forest Audit, and Forest Enforcement by Sarawak Forest Department. At this point, the participants were eager to ask En. Afriezul a few questions on the problem related to their work procedure. The final session then  continued with the explanation on Sarawak Timber Legality Verification System (STLVS) and focusing on the functions of Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd and Forest Department in this system. Throughout this training, participants had given their full commitment and attention to what has been taught.
