Team leadership plays an important part in the course of an organization to gain and maintain the competitive advantage. Another vital factor related to the development of a successful organization is teamwork.

Sinergi Ke Arah Kecemerlangan Program is an extension of Budaya Kerja Cemerlang Program that have been conducted continuously for the staff of Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd. The program was specially designed for our staff to enhance teamwork among the employees, generate greater productivity and develop a team’s efficiency and effectiveness in achieving goals. This was done through improving interaction and understanding of team roles.

The third session of Sinergi Ke Arah Kecemerlangan was held on 5th until 7th August 2017 at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort. There were 60 participants consisting of staff from Head office, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, and Sarikei regional office who attended the program. The program was facilitated by an experience trainer, Tuan Hj Shamsul Bahri B. Mohd Yusof from IRSHAD HR CONSULTING SDN BHD and assisted by another three facilitators, En. Hairani, En. Ahmad Nazri and En. Khairi.

On 5th August 2017, the program began with an ice breaking session. Seven groups were formed as well as selection of team leader for each group were done during the session. They were asked to come up with their group name, logo and tagline which were used throughout the program.



 The program for each day started with a short Tazkirah and a sharing session after Subuh Prayer for muslim participants followed by morning energizers and telematch games to encourage participant involvement and interaction. These activities were used at the beginning of the day to bring the groups together.









The second day of the program continues with a full day of outdoor activities. The first task given to each group called Parachute Troopers was designed to challenge them to effectively work together, think creatively and manage their time.

Perhaps the highlight the programme was the Harwood Timber Masterchef Challenge activity on the second day. All teams were assigned cooking tasks with the limited materials and ingredients and they were expected to whip up a perfect culinary and dining experience. Apart from that, “Handle with Care” and Project “X” games were other activities that were conducted on the same day. These activities were fun, exciting and help the groups to work more efficiently towards a common goal.

On the final day, an exhilarating task that participants would never forget was The Harwood Timber War Game where the team were pitted against each other while undergoing various physical obstacles and missions to win the game. This fast paced game adopted a military approach with a focus on teamwork, strategic planning, leadership and problem solving.   




The participants showed positive attitude, participated fully and gave their all, throughout the whole programme. Majority of the participants expressed satisfaction and agreed that the training has been beneficial in many aspects; such as having a better understanding of team members, morale boosting and staying motivated.



The programme has been successful in instilling team spirit and creating strong bonding among the participants which would go a long way in opening up better communication channels and minimizing works conflicts to bring about excellent work culture in Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd.
