On 23rd of March 2019, Forest Department of Sarawak had organized a state-level International Day of Forests that was held at University Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, Sarawak with a theme this year “Forests and Education”. The ceremony officiated by YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Sarawak and Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources. Minister of Utilities, YB Dato' Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Anak Utom, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) YB Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment YB Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources YBhg Datu Haji Wan Lizozman Wan Omar were among those present.
According to Haji Awang Tengah in his speech, the state government was aiming to produce high value-added products through collaboration with the relevant higher learning institutions on research and development in transforming the timber industry (Borneo Post 2019, March 24th).

As part of a working committee involved in this event, Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd had participated in the exhibition together with other few agencies such as Forest Department, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, STIDC, STA, MUDeNR and UPM.

Pigeons released and tree planting activities were also held concurrently in commemorating the International Day of Forests 2019.
