Pre Ramadhan and Gawai Celebration

Each year, the month of Ramadhan is a special month for all the Muslims. Ramadhan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship. Every year, the Muslims in Harwood did not missed the chance to welcome this holy month with an open heart. More interestingly, when this year's Gawai Festival falls on the sixth day of Ramadhan. Gawai Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the Dayak people in Sarawak. It is a thanksgiving day marking a bountiful harvest and a time to plan for the new farming season or other endeavors ahead.

Accordingly, Harwood Sports and Recreation Club took the opportunity to hold a Pre-Ramadan and Pre-Gawai celebration. Each year, it has been a tradition in Harwood to celebrate all races and Gawai Festival surely not to be missed. Since both days fell during Ramadhan, the celebration was held prior to the date before Ramadhan. Therefore, everyone get to celebrate in the joyous gathering before going back home for holiday.

On 26 May 2017, the staff had gathered at Harwood Timber Endorsement & Shipping Office for ‘Majlis Sambutan Bulan Ramadhan dan Gawai’. The gathering was officiated by YBhg Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Bujang Bin Mohd Nor and followed by a doa recital by Encik Wahid Bin Amit. This year, was a tad different from any other year as Harwood Timber HQ office hold a live video call to all regional offices in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu simultaneously.

The video call was an opportunity for the Executive Chairman, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Bujang Bin Mohd Nor and General Manager, Haji Abdul Hadi to deliver their speech to all staff state wide. With technology like this, the relationship between all employees become more acquainted. It is hoped that the effort does not stop here. We wish that all important meetings in the future would be able to adapt this technology to facilitate the work of all parties.

After the speech from YBhg Executive Chairman and General Manager, everyone was invited for a high tea organised by Harwood Sports and Recreation Club. Last but not least, Harwood would like to wish all Muslims, ‘Selamat Berpuasa di Bulan Ramadhan’ and to all celebrating Gawai Dayak, ‘Selamat Hari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai’.
