Enhancing Multi-Functionality of Forest Landscape in Sarawak

Recently, Sarawak Forest Department in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), Sarawak Timber Association (STA), Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd and Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd had organized Forum and Workshop on Forest Landscape 2017 that was held from 7th until 10th March at Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching. The forum, themed "Enhancing Multi-Functionality of Forest Landscape in Sarawak" is the first ever held in Sarawak that aims to strengthen the management and conservation of forests.

The objectives of the forum were to share information on past and ongoing forest landscape restoration activities and experiences, to identify options and priorities for forest landscape restoration for different land use types and to discuss opportunities to institutionalize forest landscape restoration and attract private investments to support restoration activities.

It was estimated that a total of 150 participants attended the forum that came from a various industry, background and expert. Among of the participants were non-profit organization; Wildlife Conservation Society, Japan Malaysia Association (JMA) and Educational institutions; UNIMAS, UPM, UMS, UITM and UKM to name a few. 8 (EIGHT) papers were also presented during the forum and among the international speakers who presented their paper were Dr. Scott Perkin from IUCN Bangkok and Dr. Satrio Wicaksono of the World Resources Institute Indonesia. Highlight of the event was the launching ceremony that was officiated by honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. Also present at the launching ceremony were YB Datuk Haji Mohamad Naroden Majais, YB Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh, Datu Sudarsono Osman, YBhg Tan Sri Haji Bujang Mohd Nor and Tuan Haji Sapuan Ahmad.
