Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) Carnival Heart of Borneo (HoB) hosted by the Sarawak Forest Department was held at Waterfront Kuching from 30th November 2016 until 4th December 2016. The themed “Enhancing Community Livelihood through NTFP” aligned with the aims of the event which to bring together the local communities within Sarawak regions as to promote and sell their non-timber products such as handicrafts, foods and health products. The ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment and Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment. Thirty-eight booths represent various communities (including HoB Sabah, Sarawak and Indonesia) and also agencies (Government and Non-Governmental) were involved in the carnival. HTSB was one of the participants involved in these 5 days exhibition and 22 of our staffs were selected in manning the booth according to the working rotation.
During the opening ceremony, YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan had visited Harwood Timber’s Booth and leave his signature in the visitor’s book. Also visited our booth were our Deputy General Manager of HTSB, Mr Ong Lip Kheng and Acting Assistant General Manager (Endorsement & Shipping), Tn. Hj. Abu Hassan Yusuf.
During the opening ceremony, YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah was surprised with a birthday cake in celebrating his upcoming birthday on 2nd December.
The crowd were then entertained by the special performance from a legend rock singer Datuk Ramli Sarip. As requested, YB Datuk Amar was also sang a duet with Datuk Ramli Sarip for Kamelia’s song.
On the final day of the NTFP carnival (4th December 2016), Permanent Secretary of Minister Resource Planning and Environment, Datu Sudarsono Osman was present for the closing ceremony of NTFP Carnival.
HTSB had contributed the grand prize for the NTFP Carnival which is NAZA Bikes Blade 250N S.E and Datu Sudarsono Osman presented the prize to the lucky draw’s winner witnessed by our General Manager, Tn Hj Abdul Hadi Bin Datuk Hj Abdul Kadir.
